Bourbon Milk Punch or Spiked Cider?
It’s hard to believe it, but December is here! It’s time to start implementing your favorite traditions for the Holidays. One of our traditions is Christmas morning, we all enjoy Bourbon Milk Punch, you could call it our signature drink. That’s right, by 9:00 AM we all are usually well into our first Milk Punch while we open our stockings and gifts! My Dad always made them and I can even remember at an early age stealing a sip of the spiked one! He didn’t follow a particular recipe - really there’s not much too it. But, I did run across a recipe in Garden & Gun that I will share. But personal taste will help you decide if you need a little of this, or that!
Traditionally, milk punch is exactly what it sounds like: usually whole milk combined with either brandy or bourbon, rum, some sweetness and a touch of vanilla extract. To be a little fancy, you can sprinkle nutmeg or cinnamon on top. This is a great drink for the holidays.
What you will need:
1/2 oz. dark rum (we didn’t use this at our house)
2 oz. whole milk (2% will work fine - to thicken you could add a splash of 1/2 & 1/2
3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
½ oz. Fine granulated sugar or even a Splenda is you prefer
Dash of cinnamon or nutmeg
Pour all liquids into a cocktail shaker filled three-quarters with ice. Shake vigorously until chilled, about 30 seconds. Pour into your double old fashioned glass over ice and dust with cinnamon or nutmeg.
Sit back and enjoy!
Tell us, do you have a favorite holiday drink or a tradition to share?
